Klubnacht

Music trends come and go – Italo disco is here to stay. Almost all the DJs at Panorama Bar for this weekend's Klubnacht have a soft spot for this genre that emerged in the early 80s: its motorized basslines, voluptuous synthesizers and irresistibly naive vocals anticipated much of what came to the dancefloors in Chicago a few years later in a reduced, sensual form as music. Shubostar is Korean for “the girl from outer space”, so it comes as no surprise that the DJ of the same name from Seoul, now living in Berlin, has a soft spot for those relatively slow grooves developed by Daniele Baldelli in a club called Cosmic on Lake Garda in the late 70s. Her sets mix soundtracks from computer games with classics such as Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra with cuts by DJ City and Sally Shapiro. British DJ Subaru, based in Leeds, is co-organizer and resident DJ of the city's Pleasuremaxxx parties. Her debut EP Lots of Love, released last year on Palms Trax's label CWPT, shows her as a producer of expressive Italo body music anthems. A highlight on Sunday: a joint live jam by Barker and JakoJako on the Säule floor.
