Far away from Berlin and Detroit, an impressive scene has developed in Japan, defined by radical precision and philosophical depth. Japanese techno is never just a rhythmic concept – it's also a cultural reflection: Zen Buddhism, wabi-sabi and the aesthetics of reduction influence the musical tendencies of many producers. SO is resident DJ and co-organizer of the Japanese festival Labyrinth. He describes his style as “Gravitational Space Line Continuum”: a digital sound architecture in which space and time are modulated by sound, which you can experience tonight at Berghain. At Panorama Bar, the focus is on the classic house sound of New York that emerged from the Black, Latin and gay club culture of the 80s. DJs such as Kenny Dope of Masters at Work, Eli Escobar and, of course, Honey Dijon combine elements of disco, soul, Latin and funk in their sets, reflecting the cultural fabric of the city in the most glorious way.
