Finest Friday

Jens Kuhn, better known as Lowtec, has been a defining figure among the Workshop crew for years: idiosyncratic, restrained and uncompromising. His latest album Old Economy is one of his most unusual works: he has pressed over 70 minutes of music onto a single record, unrestrained in style and inspired by the “end of the old economy” – what exactly Kuhn means is something he deliberately leaves open. Hypnotic house loops are followed by fragile ambient passages, abrupt breaks and unorthodox transitions that undermine any notion of a perfectly flowing album. On the other hand, his latest (split) EP Workshop 33 has a certain captivating flow with its lush, warm house grooves. Lowtec will be playing live at tonight's edition of Finest Friday, accompanied by DJ sets from second-wave Detroit techno DJ Kyle Hall among others.
