Born in Seoul and having arrived in Berlin via Seattle’s DIY warehouse scene, D.Dan has had a career that's taken him from drummer to resident DJ at Mala Junta. His sound thrives on percussive complexity and a rather elastic bass modulation. In his technically precise sets, he focuses on a hypnotic continuity that pulls you in with subtle polyrhythms and a nuanced layering of synthesizer sequences. His own label, summerpup – the name is a reference to his Korean roots and his year of birth – serves as a platform for a very specific form of loop-oriented hypnosis. D.Dan is playing at Berghain for this edition of Klubnacht. Since its founding in 2006 by Matt Edwards (aka Radio Slave) and James Masters, Rekids has become one of the most reliable sources for a expansive, often hypnotic take on techno and house, continuously defining the crossover between British edit culture and the raw functionality of Chicago and Detroit. To celebrate the label's 20th anniversary, Edwards and his crew will be taking over Panorama Bar starting at noon on Sunday. The lineup ranges from British club history to Detroit’s Motor City legacy – and, without giving too much away, the party will conclude with a special back-to-back set.
